One Hurt in Fire at Abandoned North Carolina High-Rise

CHARLOTTE, North Carolina – WCNC reports that one person was hurt in a fire at the abandoned Varnadore building in southeast Charlotte on Friday evening. 

Fire department officials said one person was taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation. 

Firefighters were able to get incident under control in approximately 22 minutes.

Investigators determined the fire started on the third floor and there was evidence homeless people inside.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
