Stamford Firefighters Battle Fire in High-Rise Under Construction

Workers emptied over a dozen extinguishers on the fire

STAMFORD, Connecticut – Firefighters in Stamford, Connecticut responded to a fire in a high-rise under construction on Friday, May 21.

The fire was reported at the site of the Smyth Building at Tresser Boulevard and Washington Boulevard at a little before 10:30 a.m.

In a press release, the Stamford Fire Department stated that the shift commander saw a large volume of smoke and fire on the roof of the building as he approached the scene and requested a second-alarm.

At least 12 workers on scaffolding under the fire and all were able to escape uninjured to lower floors.

Firefighters faced limited access to the construction site and once on the roof found fire in a large concrete trench.

The fire was extinguished and contained to the area of origin.

One firefighter was injured and treated on the scene.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
