Fire Chief: London Fire Brigade Part of ‘Institutional Failure’ in Grenfell Tragedy

Commissioner of the London Fire Brigade Andy Roe had some criticism for his own department this week testifying before the British government inquiry into the Grenfell Towers tragedy.

Roe said the department had enough information to recognize there was a chance an event like the 2017 fire that killed 72 people could happen. However, the organization never put all the information about the risks together in a way that generated any action.

He termed the fire, including his department’s role in it, part of an enormous institutional failure.
