Jersey City (NJ) Adds Specialty High-Rise Fire Company

The Jersey City Fire Department is expanding, adding a new company specifically set up to respond to high-rise fires.

The high-rise unit will respond to all high-rise fires. It will respond to all other working fires as a rapid intervention crew.

The new company’s rig was repurposed by the department with help from the city’s Department of Public Works, and firefighters assigned to the unit will be trained in high-rise operations.

This expansion brings the total number of fire companies in Jersey City to 28.
