One Dead in Honolulu High-Rise Fire

Overnight fire leaves one man dead. (KHON 2)

HONOLULU (KHON2) — A 61-year-old man died in an overnight two-alarm high-rise fire.

The man had limited mobility due to a past stroke which attributed to his inability to escape.

The fire happened at 1541 Kalakaua Ave. around 11:30 p.m. Thursday night. A neighbor reported hearing a working smoke detector from the unit. Investigators say that it took place on the 18th floor. HFD says damages are estimated at $129,000. MORE
